Hand Alignment

Role of the Hand

Your hand needs to be aligned and balanced properly to help your fingers move smoothly across the keyboard. Proper alignment allows the fingers to move freely and maintain a natural curve, which is essential for effective piano playing.

Common Mistakes and Issues

A common mistake is tilting the hand too far to the left or right. This makes it hard to keep control of your fingers and throws off your balance, making it difficult to play comfortably and accurately.

The hand should be positioned so it’s mostly parallel with the keys—not tilting to either side.

Proper Hand Alignment

To keep your hand in the right position, make sure it’s centered and balanced over the keys. Your fingers should touch the keys on the pads, and your hand should stay parallel to the keyboard. This position allows your fingers to move easily and comfortably.
