This one took longer than expected, for good reason.
I thought it would be a quick job: just re-record the old lessons in 4K and move on.
But the moment I hit play on the old videos, I knew:
I’ve changed. As a musician. As a teacher.
I’m no longer interested just in “interesting lessons.”
I want results.
I don’t care about flooding this curriculum with content.
I care if it changes how you play.
More lessons won’t make you better. Better lessons will.
So when I sat down to rebuild this module, I wrote one sentence and taped it above my piano:
“A beginner student will be able to improvise over a 4- or 8-bar progression in A minor at 90 BPM by week 12.”
That was the target.
Every lesson had to get you there.
If it didn’t help – or if skipping it made no difference – I cut it.
This version of Module 2 is leaner. Smarter. Sharper.
And honestly, it’s the first time I’ve truly felt I’ve found my teaching voice.
Which also means: I need to rebuild the rest.
What worked 10 years ago – endless lessons, content for content’s sake – doesn’t work now.
The best course isn’t the longest one. It’s the one that gets you where you want to be without wasting time on random stuff.
If you filled out the survey, thank you.
This version wouldn’t exist without your input.
You asked for:
– Clearer goals
– Shorter, more focused videos and courses
– Real examples over jazz standards
– More on composition, groove, and improvisation
I rewrote everything around that.
Now, in Module 2, each lesson leads toward one outcome.
And you’ll know exactly when you’ve nailed it.
Start when you’re ready.
And please, record your before/after take – I’d love to see it.
On to Module 3.
But first… a walk. Some sun. Time to touch some grass.
