4. Developing Blues Lines with Triplets
What Will You Learn in This Lesson?
When you start to improvise, there are two main ways to bring triplets into your playing.
The first one’s simple: play a few bars with eighth-note lines, then a few bars with triplets.

The second is harder: mixing eighth notes and triplets within the same phrase.
In this lesson, we’ll focus on that second one.
I’ll show you how to take a short line that’s made only of 8th notes and turn it into one that uses triplets.
Each four-bar exercise shows both versions, first with 8th notes, then with triplets.

When Are You Done With This Lesson?
In the “How long will it take to complete Module 4?” section, we talked about three types of learners.
If you recognize yourself as a Weekend Warrior or Speedrunner type, all you need to do is play along with the full video from start to finish without mistakes, and then move straight to the next lesson.
However, if you’re more of a Deep Diver, I’d like you to complete the additional sub-lessons included below as well.
