10. Going Down Drills
What Will You Learn in This Lesson
In this lesson, you’ll practice nine short drills for “Going Down.”
You’ve seen this tune before, but now it includes triplets, more syncopation,
and bigger movements across the piano.
By now, you already know my approach:
To play a song with ease, you first need to train a little beyond what it asks of you.
That’s how you make it feel easy.
Just think about the speed drills we practiced earlier.
If your goal is to make 120 BPM feel easy, practicing only at 120 won’t do it.
But if you train above your comfort zone, around 140 or 160, your brain catches up fast.
When you drop back to 120, everything feels easier and more precise.
That’s exactly what we’re doing here in these modules, not just with speed, but with every aspect of piano playing.
We push our limits first, so when it’s time to play the tune and improvise, we take one step back,
and it feels completely under control.
